Just Started Running, Already Bought Expensive Shoes – Is It Necessary?

We’ve all been there — super excited about a new hobby. Just tried running for a day and already browsing premium running shoes, added to cart, and… checked out. But really: is it necessary to buy expensive shoes right away?

1. Initial Hype vs Consistency

High motivation is great — but unfortunately, it often fades fast. Many people buy full gear right away, but after a week, the shoes are just sitting in a corner. Before spending big, ask yourself: will I really run consistently?

2. Expensive Shoes = Investment or Style?

High-end running shoes often have advanced features: cushioned soles, lightweight materials, specific foot support, and more. But if you're only running 1–2 km a week, mid-range shoes are more than enough. Remember, buy what you need, not what looks cool on IG.

3. Understand Your Feet First

Before dropping big money, it’s important to understand your foot type. Do you need support for pronation? Do you prefer thick cushioning or minimal soles? Try different types in-store or use your old shoes while figuring out your running rhythm.

4. Focus on Habit, Not Gear

Instead of splurging right away, focus on building the habit. Start with 2–3 runs a week using whatever gear you have. Once you’re consistent, then reward yourself with those dream shoes!

In Conclusion: Expensive shoes can be a great investment if you’re serious and consistent. But if you’re just starting, take it slow. What matters most in running isn’t the fancy shoes — it’s your intent and consistency.
